AU SARO Working Visit to the AfCFTA Secretariat in Ghana

The AU-SARO delegation led by the Head of Mission Ambassador David Claude Pierre undertook a working courtesy visit to the AfCFTA secretariat in Accra Ghana under the invitation of the AfCFTA Secretary General Wamkele Mene from 13-17 February 2022.The purpose of the meeting was to hold discussions on Joint areas of collaboration and regional programme activities with regards to the AfCFTA agreement in the Southern Africa.

The Secretary General H.E Wamkele Mene, together with his Senior Management Team, welcomed the AU-SARO delegation to the AfCFTA Secretariat highlighting that the meeting was long overdue. The Secretary-General further stressed the importance of cooperation and working together to build the technical expertise in the region as well as strengthen cooperation between the two Offices, which could be replicated in other regions in the continent. H.E Wamkele Mene further gave a general overview of the AfCFTA and activities of the Secretariat.

In addition, AU-SARO was applauded for being among the few offices to have foresight and interest in working on AfCFTA with the Secretariat. In his reaction, Ambassador David Claude Pierre thanked H.E Mene for the invitation extended to AU-SARO and also introduced his delegation. The Ambassador briefed the AfCFTA Secretariat on the mandate of AU-SARO, its key programmes and activities, the report of the AfCFTA Conference held in Malawi in February 2022, and possible areas of collaboration between the two Offices.</p>
